How to Stay Fit While Traveling

When traveling it can be difficult to stick with your normal exercise routine - with flight delays, time changes and lack of gym equipment you can be left out of sorts. But that doesn't mean that all your pre-vacation work has to fall by the wayside - it just means you need to get creative. 

Here are some ways you can stay active and healthy while traveling:

#1 Try a New Class

Traveling to a new destination is the perfect time to check out a new fitness class at a local studio. Many destinations have specials for people who are traveling or new to their studio such as discounted daily or weekly passes. Check with the front desk at your hotel for suggestions of local studios or do a Google search in the area for the type of fitness class you are interested in such as yoga, pilates, barre, cycle or cross fit. 

#2 Plan an Active Agenda

One of the best things to do when you travel to new places is to explore, and what better way to do that than actively. So instead of taking a cab or bus to a destination try walking or bike riding instead - it will allow you enjoy the scenery along the way and stay healthy at the same time. 

In addition to being active en route to places to explore, you can also plan actual excursions that are active such as hiking, snorkeling, stand-up paddle board, horseback riding, kayaking or swimming. Depending on the destination some of the best views can be seen from mountain tops, paths and underwater.

#3 Start Your Day With Yoga or Stretching

Starting your day with even 10-15 minutes of yoga poses or basic stretches can help you feel more relaxed and energized throughout the day. Throughout the day you will feel more clear minded and at night you will sleep better.

#4 Bring Your Fitness Gear With You

Now this doesn't mean you need to travel with dumbbells - but you can get creative with what you bring along with you with small lightweight equipment like resistance bands, TRX bands or Aquabells which you can fill with water when you arrive.

#5 Utilize the Resort Fitness Facility or Classes

Most resorts not only have fitness centers but also fitness classes that are offered for free or at a discounted rates for guests. Both area great way to be active and make the most of your stay at your hotel or resort while also trying out new equipment, classes or both. 

 

No matter what you decide, staying active for part, or all of your vacation, will help you to experience new things with more energy, less stress and better health. Allowing you to truly return home feeling better (or at the very least the same) than when you left.
